Divorce and Retirement
The two most important issues when separating after retirement are spousal support and property division. Once you retire and a pension starts paying you, that pension is both an asset and a source of income. In most cases, if a pension has been divided through equalization, income from that pension is excluded from spousal support calculations. However, if part of the pension was accumulated before or after the marriage, that portion of the pension would be included in income for spousal support.
